[News] Delegation from Shandong University Visits SNUAC
On April 2, 2026, a delegation from Shandong University in China visited SNUAC to discuss potential avenues for exchange and cooperation between the two institutions.
The Shandong University delegation included Cao Xianqiang, Vice President; Zheng Jingbin, Dean of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences; Ma Wen, Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages and Literature; Liu Chang, Professor in the Department of Korean Language; Cheng Xiaohua, Professor in the Department of Political Science and Public Administration; and Su Chang, Director of the Office of International Affairs. From SNUAC, participants included Ho Kim, Deputy Director; Baek Yung Kim, Director of the Northeast Asia Center; Ilhong Ko, HK Professor; and Lan Jin, Research Fellow at the Northeast Asia Center. The meeting was arranged with the assistance of Kwang-eok Kim, Professor Emeritus of Anthropology at SNU (formerly Distinguished Professor at Shandong University), and Young-min Kwon, Professor Emeritus of Korean Language and Literature at SNU (Foreign Chair Professor at Shandong University).
During the meeting, Vice President Cao Xianqiang noted that Shandong and Shandong University, located at the geographical center of East Asia, have a strong interest in promoting education and research from an Asian perspective. In this regard, he expressed optimism about the potential for collaboration with the Asia Center at Seoul National University. Dean Zheng Jingbin also emphasized the shared commitment of both institutions to interdisciplinary Asian studies that bridge the humanities and social sciences, highlighting multiple areas for potential collaboration between researchers. In particular, Confucian studies from an Asian perspective were identified as a promising field in which the two institutions could generate future synergy.
Baek Yung Kim, Director of the Northeast Asia Center, noted the importance of diversifying academic partnerships between Korea and China and expressed hope that the meeting would help lay the groundwork for substantive research collaboration between the two sides.
The visit provided an opportunity to explore possibilities for academic and research cooperation between the Asia Center at Seoul National University and Shandong University, while also establishing a foundation for broader future exchanges.
