Visiting Scholars Program

Seoul National University Asia Center (SNUAC)
Introduction of Visiting Scholar Program

Seoul National University Asia Center (SNUAC)’s Visiting Scholar Program is for outstanding scholars from home and abroad who are interested in Asian Studies, to network and work with research programs at SNUAC. SNUAC expects visiting scholars’ active participation in various academic/networking events throughout their affiliation period. They are also given a chance to present their research in the Visiting Scholars Seminar Series.

From 2024, the applicant can choose from four dates (March 1st, June 1st, September 1st, and December 1st) to start their visiting scholarship. Applications should be submitted at least two months before their expected day of arrival. (e.g. if the desired start date is June 1st, 2024, application should be submitted by March 31st, 2024)

The application consists of 1) an internal review and 2) an administrative procedure.

1) INTERNAL REVIEW
Required documents:

  • Research Proposal (1-2 pages with visiting dates specified; e.g. from September 1, 2024, to February 28, 2025)
  • CV (YY/MM/DD)
  • Sponsorship Letter (A sponsor should be a person taking charge of the research program of SNUAC in which the applicant will work together during the visit)
  • Letter of Confirmation (If the applicant is still in the Ph.D. program, a letter of confirmation from their advisor at home institution is required, including the applicant’s name, affiliation, visiting period, and research topic)

2) ADMINISTRATIVE PROCEDURE
After the applicants get their approval through internal review, they will need to submit the required documents, in order to complete the administrative procedure. Visiting scholars will be given a chance to participate in the Visiting Scholars Seminar Series, held every semester, and share their research progress.

* Visiting Scholars Program is not an employment-based scheme, so the Institute will not be able to help the visiting scholars get entry visas.
