Program on Asia’s Intellectual Values is examining the formation of Confucianism, Legalism, and Taoism, as they are the central values of Asia. In East Asia, the Hundred Schools of Thought in the Spring and Autumn Warring States Period corresponds to what Karl Jaspers called the Axial Age. Many discussions formed here differ upon how the past myths and history are remembered. This lecture by Prof. Olga Gorodetskaya discusses the Xia, Shang, and Zhou dynasties on the topic of ‘From Myth to Historical Fact’. This lecture will help us reexamine how the discussions of the Hundred Schools of Thought continued to make their own stories.
