[Announcement] Recruitment for SNUAC Friends of Asia (FoA) 5th Batch


Objective
Seoul National University Asia Center (SNUAC) is a research institute located within Seoul National University which conducts academic and cultural exchanges between Korea and Asian countries. In addition to accumulating outstanding research results, SNUAC also hosts various lectures, workshops, conferences, and academic events. As such, SNUAC created a club for Asian students under the name, “Friends of Asia (FoA)” and has been actively supporting its activities. Hence, SNUAC is inviting students to participate in Friends of Asia as it provides opportunities for research and training for students interested in Asia.

 

Eligibility
Seoul National University students (undergraduate, graduate, on leave, research students) who are from Asia
( Non-Asian students can also apply)

 

Duration
Starts from October 2019. Members should participate for at least one semester (those who wish to participate for more than one semester are welcome). Members may adjust meeting times upon discussion.

 

Activities
1. Research on Asian Regional Issues (Issue Paper)

  • Conduct research on Asia-related issues and/or the region (some topics include but are not limited to: political/economic/social issues, culture, and environment)
  • Submit an issue paper on any Asia-related issue or an Asian country once in 3 months (excellent works will be published in the SNUAC Newsletter)
  • Budget provided

2. Seminar

  • FoA Seminar: once a month (Tuesday 7PM-8PM, dinner provided)
    • Reporting of:

1) each group’s progress on the issue paper; and

2) updates on the group’s issues and countries (10-minute presentation, 5-minute Q&A)

  • Group Seminar: twice a month (budget provided, specific method to be discussed with the group members)
    • Seminar reports should be submitted

3. Field Trips and Cultural Exchange

  • Two field trips scheduled for the semester
  • The location is subject to change depending on the topics and countries chosen by the members

4. Participate in “Introduction to Asian Studies” Lectures (optional)

  • A total of 12 seminars are scheduled every Friday from 2PM-3:30PM

Incentive Regulation
Members who participate in more than 5 times out of the total 8 seminars, at least once in the 2 field trips planned, and compose one issue paper will be given the following incentives in:

1) the workshops hosted by SNUAC;

2) the programs hosted by SNUAC;

3) awarded a certificate of completion, and will be given

4) an opportunity to be published in the SNUAC Newsletter.
