Speaker: Sang-Woo Lim (Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea)

This lecture will be given by Sang-Woo Lim, Deputy Minister for Public Diplomacy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Korea and former Minister and Consul General at the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in India. Drawing on his experience serving in India, the lecture will explore the practice of historical and cultural public diplomacy and the potential for further development in Korea–India relations. While serving as Minister and Consul General at the Korean Embassy in India in 2025, the speaker completed a guide training program at the National Museum of India and volunteered as an official guide. In this role, he introduced major artifacts from ancient Indian history, ranging from the Harappan Civilization to the Maurya, Kushan, and Gupta dynasties, while exploring the possibility of historical and cultural exchanges between ancient Korea and India. Focusing on his field experience at the National Museum of India, this lecture examines how the interpretation of historical heritage can be extended into a practice of public diplomacy. It will also discuss the future direction of Korea–India relations and the implications of cultural diplomacy.
