Funeral Documents and Rites in Han Period

Titled “Funeral Documents and Rites in Han Period”, this lecture aims to explore ancient Chinese conceptions of the afterlife and related value systems through philological and archaeological approaches to funerary documents and mortuary rituals.
The speaker, Tian Tian, has served as a professor at the School of Archaeology and Museology at Peking University since 2021. Her research focuses on the state sacrificial system and ritual practices of the Qin and Han periods, primarily through excavated manuscripts. Her recent publications include “A Preliminary Study on the Development of Qin–Han Medical Prescriptions: Based on the ‘Prescription’ Manuscripts from the Peking University Qin Slips” (Studies in the History of Natural Sciences, 2024-1), “‘Old Clothing’ and the Records of Garments in the Han–Jin Period” (Wenwu, 2024-6), and “A Preliminary Study of Labels on Western Han Burial Goods” (Jianghan Archaeology, 2024-4).
