Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, global security and economic interest in the Arctic has been increasing. In this context, Russia has been actively pursuing policies to develop Arctic energy resources and to revitalize the Northern Sea Route. It has also been expanding cooperation with China on the use of this route. Through these policies, Russia seeks to maintain economic growth despite Western sanctions. This situation carries important implications for the South Korean government and businesses, which currently have strong interest in utilizing the Northern Sea Route.
