After Netflix is a book that analyzes how the Korean media landscape has evolved since Netflix entered the domestic market and explores where it’s headed next. Since the late 2010s, the media market has effectively begun and ended with Netflix. Even though Squid Game reached No. 1 globally on Netflix, Korean content still struggles to break out of the boundaries of Asia. The author diagnoses this issue and offers a multifaceted and layered analysis of the media ecosystem to project its future trajectory. Drawing on firsthand research and the latest data from both the domestic and global OTT industries, the book combines industry insight with clear, compelling storytelling to help readers—experts and general audiences alike—grasp where the media market is going and what paths lie ahead.

Critic Youngshin Cho is an expert in media, the ICT industry, and content business, offering sharp analysis and deep insights into the rapidly shifting global media landscape. A graduate of Yonsei University’s Department of Mass Communication, Cho earned a master’s degree from Indiana University and a PhD in media industry policy from Pennsylvania State University. With experience analyzing industry trends and forecasting markets, Cho has served as Senior Research Fellow at SK Economic Research Institute and as Head of Strategy at SK Broadband. Currently, Cho is working on a new book examining the “second media revolution” sparked by artificial intelligence.

In 2014, Cho quickly translated the influential New York Times Innovation Report, making waves in the journalism scene. As Director of Conference Cooperation at the Korean Society for Broadcasting and President of the Communication Policy Research Group at the Korean Society for Journalism and Communication Studies, Cho continues to engage with change-makers through lectures, research, and writing.
