The SNUAC CECAS and the Migration & Refugee Studies Research Group will host an academic conference on May 15th, 2025, under the theme “Refugees of Eurasian Conflicts.” This conference seeks to explore multifaceted approaches to understanding refugee movements caused by conflicts across the Eurasian region, applying these perspectives particularly to the case of Afghan refugees.

Session 1 focuses on refugee policymaking and the psychological experiences of refugees, engaging both macro and micro levels of analysis. At the macro level, it examines how states classify and manage refugee populations. At the micro level, it investigates the psychological impact of conflict on individual refugees, especially concerning mental health.

Session 2 centers specifically on Afghan refugees. It compares the cases of Afghan refugees in Iran and the Afghan Special Contributors in South Korea, analyzing their respective processes of social integration. It also considers the case of Tajikistan’s refugee policy, examining how refugee governance interacts with the economic implications of refugee influxes.
