Academic Conference Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Vietnam’s Reunification

  • Date: April 4th, Friday, 2025, 13:00 – 18:00
  • Location: Samick Hall (Room 220), SNUAC (Bldg. 101)

The year 2025 marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification and holds significant meaning in modern Vietnamese history. Re-examining the reunification of Vietnam from a contemporary perspective and understanding its modern implications is a crucial task, both academically and practically. From South Korea’s standpoint in particular, understanding Vietnam’s reunification not only deepens our comprehension of Vietnam itself, but also holds valuable significance for comparative studies on national division and reunification, the historical context of Korea-Vietnam relations, and a deeper grasp of Southeast Asian political and economic history. These topics are also key areas of inquiry in the field of political science and international relations, encompassing themes such as reunification, political and social integration, Korea-Vietnam relations, and Southeast Asian politics.

At the academic conference commemorating the 50th anniversary of Vietnam’s reunification, scheduled for April 4th, Professor Nguyễn Văn Kim’s lecture will offer valuable political and diplomatic insights into the historical context and contemporary implications of Vietnam’s reunification. It will also provide a rare opportunity to hear personal reflections from a local scholar who directly experienced reunification. In addition, Professor Martin Grossheim’s lecture, along with four academic presentations and discussions, will allow scholars to share their academic contributions and research experiences. This will offer students and researchers at Seoul National University an opportunity to deepen their understanding not only of Vietnam’s reunification, but also of Vietnamese history and Southeast Asian studies more broadly.
