The Asia-Africa Center under the SNUAC has been hosting the ‘SNU Africa Seminar’ series regularly every month since 2022. This seminar series aims to foster a deep understanding of Africa and academic exchange by inviting experts on Africa from diverse academic fields and professional backgrounds.

On Friday, December 6, 2024, the 21st SNU Africa Seminar will feature a lecture by Professor Sung Ki-wan from the Department of Convergent Arts at Kaywon University of Art and Design. He will speak on the topic “The Global Journey of West African Music.” This seminar is expected to delve deeply into the essence of African popular music and the characteristics of its global dissemination. It offers participants an opportunity to view African music, which serves as a ‘shared platform’ connecting global popular music through what is known as the ‘Afro module,’ from a fresh perspective and to gain an understanding of Africa as a ‘music-centric society.’
