[News] The Northeast Asia Center Holds a Discussion on “Security in the Indo-Pacific Region After the U.S. Presidential Election”


The Northeast Asia Center at Seoul National University Asia Center, led by Director Baek-Yung Kim, hosted a security discussion on September 12 at 4 PM on the topic of “Security in the Indo-Pacific Region After the U.S. Presidential Election” with overseas scholars from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Germany.

Participants included Thomas Yoshimura, Resident Representative in Korea at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation; Dewi Fortuna Anwar, a research professor at the Indonesian government’s National Research and Innovation Agency; Kuik Cheng-Chwee, a professor of International Relations at the University of Malaysia; Stephen Nagy, a fellow at the Canadian Global Affairs Institute; Veerle Nouwens, Executive Director of the Shangri-La Dialogue; Jonathan Nowak, Desk Officer for the North Atlantic region at the Konrad Adenauer Foundation; Tsuneo Nabe Watanabe, senior fellow of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation; Sangah Yoon, coordinator of the security team at the foundation; and Sarah Fahrenkrug, a participant in the foundation’s North Korea project.

From The Northeast Asia Center, attendees included Professor Baek-Young Kim (Director of the Northeast Asia Center), Dr. Jong-Cheol Kim (Research Fellow at SNUAC), Dr. Jeong-Kyung Seo (Research Fellow at the Northeast Asia Center), Professor Jeong-Hwan Lee (Department of Diplomacy, Seoul National University), Professor Ji-Woon Baek (Seoul National University Institute for Unification and Peace), Professor Jong-Seok Yoon (Director of the University of Seoul Center for Contemporary China Studies), and Dr. Ran Kim (Visiting Researcher at the Northeast Asia Center).

Both sides engaged in extensive discussions on various mutual interests, including security issues in the Indo-Pacific region following the U.S. presidential election. They also agreed to actively promote collaborative projects in the future.
