Research Fellow Sunhee Kim from the Migration and Refugee Research Group (SNUAC) is hosting a paper presentation titled “Judicial Measures as State Repression Under Authoritarian State: The Case of Russia, 2010-2017”. This study discusses various strategies of social control pursued by modern authoritarian states and their limitations. Focusing on the case of Russia, a representative modern authoritarian regime, it analyzes the process by which the Russian government, following the large-scale anti-government Bolotnaya protests, sought to control civil society while simultaneously working to secure procedural legitimacy to minimize the negative fallout of repression and control. All those interested are invited to attend.
