As a way of understanding Mega-Asia, we need to examine the surroundings. In this aspect, Japan serves as an adequate object of study. By examining how ancient Japanese people imagined ‘Tenka’, we will be able to find the scope of the world as perceived by the Japanese people and their positions in that world. We will also be able to compare the position and status of Japan as seen by other countries including China.
