This event is an interim presentation that is part of the 2021 Research Support Program for Japanese Studies. The presenters will share their research on the tourist gazes around urban cityscapes during the colonial periods of China (Manchuria), Taiwan, and Joseon and compare them to examine how the gazes of power that divided the visibility and invisibility of the city during the Japanese colonial era operated differently in each colony, and what they suggest to the subjectivities of colonizer and the colonized.
