[News] HK+Mega-Asia Research Project Group Participates in 2023 HUS-AS Research Outcome Presentation


On December 28th-29th, 2023, the “2023 HUS-AS Research Outcome Presentation” was held over two days at aT Center in Yangjae-dong, Seoul. This presentation, under the theme of “Transdisciplinary humanities research for the future of coexistence beyond the borders of humanities”, was jointly held by Konkuk Univ. Research Institute for Knowledge Content Development & Technology, CELEB Research Institute, and Chung-Ang Univ. Humanities Research Institute, organized by HUS-AS and supported by the National Research Foundation and the Ministry of Education. At the presentation, SNUAC HK+Mega-Asia Research Project Group participated with director Suhong Chae’s video presentation in the ‘education’ session and a promotional booth for research outcomes.

In the video presentation, director Suhong Chae introduced the vision and social significance of HK+Mega-Asia Research Project Group as it conducts its agenda of “Mega-Asia and Asias: Identity, Dynamics, Data-telling”. Especially, he emphasized that ‘Mega-Asia’ is a frame of regional cooperation that includes a much larger area than before, and that it can provide an ideological basis for the peace and prosperity through which Asia can commonly respond to the various changes it will experience in the future.

Through the promotional booth, the research group actively promoted its research outcomes from the first phase of the project, which included the 12 books in the HK Research Series and the 5 books in the HK Culture Series. In particular, Introduction to Mega-Asia Research (Co-edited by Beomshik Shin and Sunghee Ru, Zininzin, 2022) and Asia’s Heritage Trend: Examining Asia’s Present Through Its Past (Co-edited by Jongil Kim and Minjae Zoh, Routledge, 2023) in which over 80% of the authors consist of the HK research staff, are the major excellent research outcomes of the group, playing an important role in leading the turn of paradigm in Asian regional studies. HK+Mega-Asia Research Project Group was recognized for its effort in the first phase of the research so it was selected as a research group with outstanding research outcomes in 2023 by the Ministry of Education.

Daeyoung Youn (HK Research Professor), who participated in the “2023 HUS-AS Research Outcome Presentation”, reported the participants’ interest in SNUAC HK+Mega-Asia Research Project Group’s publications, and shared the agenda and information about other universities’ research groups with future possibilities of cooperation.
