Humanity is going through a climate crisis and a crisis of biodiversity at the same time. However, compared to the climate crisis, the biodiversity crisis is lesser known and does not call for specific action. For the survival of humanity which is part of nature, we must actively respond to the biodiversity crisis.  The Convention on Biological Diversity and the Intergovernmental Science Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services are international conventions and institutions created to preserve biodiversity. This seminar examines how they preserve nature, nature’s contributions to humanity, and the quality of human life; what Korea does as a member state; and the international trends in environmental discussions.  We will critically think about whether their activities can successfully bring biodiversity into the spotlight on international or domestic stages.
