Population Crisis and Immigration Policy

  • Date: September 7th, Thursday, 2023, 14:00 – 16:00

Presenter: Hye-Kyung Lee (Emeritus professor, Paichai University)
Population crisis is a task faced by many advanced countries in the world. A chronic lack of labor challenges these nations due to an aging population and declining birth.  This colloquium explores the role of government in an era where countries compete for immigrants, and suggests the need for establishing a systematic immigration policy rather than claiming that ‘immigration solves all’.  Through discussion, we will examine the social and spatial phenomena that emerge over the cities, such as the rise and fall of industries, gendered immigration labor, polarization of the labor market, and the formation of multicultural enclaves.
