During the Vietnam War period, North Korea kept intimate relations with North Vietnam by not only supporting them financially but also dispatching troops. Thus the North Korea-North Vietnam relations during the Vietnam War is an important topic to focus on. However, as resources are scarce and not easily accessible, many parts of both countries are still covered in veils and lack sufficient interpretations or research. Furthermore, Korean scholars still view the relationship between the Vietnam War and the North Korea-North Vietnam relations within the frame of the Cold War, due to the characteristic of its divided state. In order to understand historical facts from a more objective perspective beyond stereotypes, the author presents the process of the Vietnam War, the North Korea-North Vietnam relations, and the participation of North Korea in the Vietnam War and helps readers grasp current North Korea-North Vietnam relations with a more concrete background.
