‘2021 Asian Cultural Festival’, held by SNUAC AsIA Humanities Dissemination Center as part of the Humanities Korea Plus project hosted by the National Research Foundation of Korea, is a humanities-oriented event for all domestic citizens and foreigners interested in Asian culture. This year’s festival focuses on Indonesia, an island nation that is 4th biggest in population, 14th largest, and consists of 17,000 islands. Indonesia is a multiethnic, multilingual, and multireligious nation, yet cares for and cooperates with each other, showing a prime example of integration in multiplicity. Indonesia is also a cultural nation that preserves its diverse and decorative cultural heritage in its long history and the various cultural traditions of multiple ethnicities within its well-preserved natural environment. Also, it is the largest economy in Southeast Asia with the 16th highest GDP in the world and is ranked at 7th in export and import with Korea, with its status of special strategic partner since 2017. Indonesia is ranked first with its Hallyu Index in 2021, increasing the accessibility between Korea in many ways. We hope this festival will offer us an opportunity to understand Indonesia, a country that has become closer to us than ever.
