Long-term COVID-19, Experiences and Challenges in Asian Cities

  • Date: October 27th, Wednesday, 2021 15:00 – 17:00
  • Online via Zoom

As of October 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic has continued and repeated globally and caused over 210 million confirmed cases and nearly 5 million deaths, showing characteristics of the era of ‘long-term COVID-19’. Upon facing the ‘long-term COVID-19’ era where the precarious risk of COVID-19 is continued long-term, this event will discuss the various solutions for the pandemic such as ‘post-COVID’ and ‘with COVID’ and ways of understanding them. Especially, in the sense that the shock of COVID-19 and the efforts of transformation after the pandemic cannot but have intimate relations with lifestyles in cities, we would like to discuss the experiences and tasks of Asian cities with professionals.

This event will share the opinions of experts on questions that we are considering in the era of long-term COVID-19. First, when will COVID-19 end, or can we even say that it will? We will discuss this topic from various angles, including the health and medical perspectives such as the vaccination rate and cure development and the ‘with COVID-19’ policy that considers fatality and continuity. Second, what is the most important task given to us by COVID-19? As the multifaceted and complex shock of COVID-19 has accumulated for a long time, many diverse issues are rising. But among those issues, there are those that are important yet have not been made visible. We will take some time to rediscover some major issues and understand them in a more integrated way. Third, how have our lives and cities changed, or how do they have to change, after COVID-19? It is not easy to foresee the future when the pandemic has not passed. However, it is necessary for us to start discussing the lessons and prospects from the crisis of humanity posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Asian cities in the center, the discussion will also include experiences of other cities around the world. The event will also incorporate communication with audience members to create a better understanding and prospects for the long-term COVID-19 era full of precarity.
