This colloquium was about ‘Old Industrial Cities and Affect’. Professor Seung Hoon Yang (Sociology, Kyungnam University) gave a presentation on ‘The Change of Affect in Industrial City of Geoje After the Structural Adjustment of Shipbuilding Industry’, and Professor Shin, Jin-Sook (Institute of Global Affairs, Kyunghee University) gave a presentation on ‘Korean Industrial Cities from the Perspective of Affective Urbanism: Taebaek and Geoje’. The two presentations explained the various aspects inside the industrial cities’ structural change with the concept of ‘affect’, with different industrial cities as examples.

The discussion was proceeded by Professors Sehoon Chang (Sociology, Dong-A University) and Kwon Myoung A (Korean Language & Literature, Dong-A University). Prof. Chang talked about how the process of structural change in old industrial cities can unfold in quite different contexts, and how the social relations of the cities can show different forms. Prof. Kwon talked about the theoretical and historical contexts of the concept of ‘affect’, and the epistemological possibility of an affective urban theory.
