The fourth session of ‘Reading Urban Theory Critically 2’ seminar by Prof. Kwang-Seok Lee (Seoul National University of Science & Technology). This session consisted of a lecture with the title, ‘Seoul as “Sharing City” and Possible Alternatives of Commons’.

Prof. Lee pointed out the possibilities and limitations of the sharing city that the city office of Seoul is proceeding with, and suggested the possibilities of urban commons, a rising urban discourse. He explained the various urban problems of platform capitalism in urban spaces and emphasized the importance of a ‘phygital’ idea in thinking about discourses alternative to platform capitalism. Phygital is a coinage of the (immaterial) digital and the physical, referring to space where both incessantly connect and interact with each other. He introduced various cases to suggest that it is important to understand the relationship between the two in grasping and analyzing the danger of platform capitalism and risks in urban space.
