On October 23rd, the Center for Asian Urban Societies held a seminar on ‘Creative City, Smart City, Eco-City, Green City, Global City, Etc.: A Political Economic Interpretation on the Flickers of the Urban Discourse’ with Professor Jung Won Sonn (Bartlett School of Planning, University College London).

This seminar attempted a critical interpretation of the process of various urban discourses appearing and disappearing. Professor Sonn especially explained that in the process of urban discourses recklessly being used and becoming extinct by ‘urban experts’, ‘administrators’, and ‘regional governments’, there was a combination of a paradox of capital circulation and the problem of regions. Through this lecture, we examined the cases of various urban discourses and their processes of flickering in the past.
