In Asia-Pacific region, two powers are largely pitted against each other. One is China that shifts away from Deng Xiaoping’s Open-door policy to seeking to procure hegemony not only in the Southern East China Sea and the Eastern China Sea, but also in the Indian Ocean by initiating the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, the One Belt and Road Initiative, etc. under the Xi Jinping administration, which seeks to become a G2. Accordingly, the United States is containing China’s movement by keeping its influence in Asia-Pacific region under the basis of Pivot to Asia. As a middle power, India’s response is important in this condition, yet it is pointed out that India has avoided conflicts between the US and China by strengthening its tie with South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam and the Philippines. Regarding this, India’s new responsive strategies on China-US contest in Asia-Pacific are sought as the third complementary direction.
