Scholarship, Research, Education and Asia

Economic recessions in South Korea are expected to be worse than any other time and politics have not been able to meet the expectations of the people. How about the situation of academia where we belong to? According to many assessments, the quality of studies is not as excellent as it growth in scope. To improve this situation, would it be enough to benchmark advanced studies harder than now or would transformative changes be required? This presentation claims that dramatic changes are required to raise the quality of research and education because economic and political hardships are not related with the level of scholarship. By supposing authoritarianism should be overcome as the first step of change, the presentation proposes detailed solutions to solve the issues in the field of education. Recognizing that authoritarianism is not only the problem of South Korea, but also the problem of many Asia countries, this presentation also looks at the possibility that the proposed method of education can diffuse with other researchers in Asia.
