Review

On November 26, 2018, the Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies co-organized “Korea-Russia Expert Roundtable: Peace and Prosperity of Korean Peninsular and Northeast Asia and Korea-Russia Cooperation” with SNU Institute for Russian, East European and Eurasian Studies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Russo-Korean Society. A total of 11 Korean and 10 Russian experts participated in this event and it was divided into two sessions.

The Round Table aimed to seek cooperative means between Korea and Russia within the context of rapidly changing situation in the Korean peninsula in order to promote denuclearization and peace and prosperity in Northeast Asia. The experts from the two nations examined the relationship between relevant nations surrounding the Korean peninsula including North-South Koreas, US-China and US-Russia, and in-depth discussions on possible measures for the denuclearization of North Korea and fostering peace in Northeast Asia followed. The successes and failures of the past 30 years of Korea-Russia economic cooperation were examined and future cooperative actions were explored in the end.
