Review

SNU Honorary Professor Kwangok Kim who is currently a national level 1 professor at Shandong University was invited for this Book Talk on the 15th of November. This book talk was about his new book Everyday Life of the Chinese People which analyzes the daily lives of the Chinese people through the eyes of a socio-political anthropologist. The philosophical aspect of the Chinese’ everyday lives as well as the dynamics between society and the individual were examined. The significance of the independent coexistence of the state and society in China and the accumulated philosophy, customs, and imagination were discussed. Professor Kim emphasized that the past continuously accumulates as it evolves in a spiral manner and thus history must be take into account when examining society of state. Lastly, China officially claims that there are no ongoing revolutionary activities, but Professor Kim argued for a continuous movement for revolution within the Chinese society and discussions followed afterwards.
