SNUAC Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies is organizing a special colloquium that delves into the interpretation of modern history by the Russian government.

A special colloquium on the topic of “Interpretation of Contemporary History of Russia Under Putin” was held by the Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies at SNUAC on the 19th of October. HK Professor Ka Young Ko from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies examined the features of Putin regime’s interpretation of contemporary history through looking at The State Central Museum of Contemporary History of Russia and pointed out that the current Russian regime seems to view the Emancipation Reform of 1861 as the starting point of Russian contemporary history based on an interview conducted during her fieldwork. Discussions on the museum’s goal to exhibit Russian history that is synchronous with the general Western history followed afterwards. The colloquium provided an opportunity for leaning about how the interpretation of contemporary history of Russia under Putin has been focusing on the ‘modernization of homeland.’
