A History of Welfare Capitalism in South Korea: Emergence and Change of the Asset-based Welfare examines the transformations of Korean welfare capitalism through the processes of industrialization, democratization, and globalization from the perspective of formation and transformation of asset-based welfare. Korean welfare capitalism is defined as asset-based welfare and its development process is illustrated centering on social policy, tax policy, and financial policy. The book especially emphasizes that the tax and financial policies are the key in connecting capitalism and welfare. The book examines the three distinguished periods from industrialization in the 1960s to post-Asian Financial Crisis, and into the 2000s. The formation of asset-based capitalism is explained as a national savings mobilization strategy in the industrialization period and traces the path-dependent changes in asset-based capitalism through the processes of democratization and globalization.
