SNUAC Series in Asian Studies
1.Purpose
Outstanding research in Asian studies is published with the purpose to disseminate up-to-date knowledge on Asia, to restructure western centric methodology, and to establish independence in research.
2. Basic Rules
Research on free topics in Asian studies is selected in the first half of 2018.
(1) Research Topic: A free topic related to Asian studies (topics in Korean studies are discouraged)
(2) Research Method: Individual or maximum of three researchers may participate per research project
(3) Research Period: One year
(4) Eligibility: Researcher/Research team with a minimum of 50% completed research(or paper) in process
3. Support
(1) Grant: Total of 45,000,000KRW (three projects maximum)
(2) Scale of Support: Maximum of 15,000,000KRW per project
4. Eligibility
(1) Chief Researcher
– Faculty or researcher affiliated to SNU with a Ph.D. degree
– Individual research applicants must be affiliated to SNU
(2) Co-researchers
– Domestic residents with a Ph.D. degree
5. Length of Research and Submission of Research Outcome
(1) Research period: One year (2018. 6. 1. ∼ 2019. 5. 31.)
(2) Submission of outcomes: The chief researcher must submit two copies of the results report (over 40,000 words), a copy of abstract, and a copy of a statement of accounts within three months of research completion. The results will be published within a year from the report submission.

6. Evaluation of Research Outcome and Publication
(1) The SNUAC research committee is responsible for the evaluation process and reports that pass the evaluation will be published accordingly.
(2) Reports that receive less than 60 points in total may not apply for future SNUAC grants for the next five years.
(3) The extension of deadline for submitting research outcomes (e.g. accidents, illnesses) must be approved by the SNUAC planning committee.
7. Research Proposal Method
(1) Application form: Complete <Form 1> (with attachments) and submit to Department of Academic Research at SNUAC. (After submitting via e-mail, need to mail the original copy of the application)
(2) Standards and length of application: Maximum of 15 pages (A4), Font: New Times Roman, 11 point, line spacing 180
(3) Need to include the Title of the research project, List of past research achievements, Summary and Background of research, Prospects of research, Budget planning, etc. in the application form.
(4) Need to include detailed plan of research in the summary as well as chapter summaries in consideration of future publication.
※ Must disclose existing research results in the table of contents.
(5) Need to plan budgeting in accordance with SNU regulations and the budget items must be detailed and specific.
8. Screen and Selection of Proposals
SNUAC Research Committee is responsible for the evaluation and selection processes.
(1) Evaluation Process
– Evaluation is divided into stage 1 and 2.
– Stage 1(individual evaluation): Two judges per field individually evaluate following the evaluation standards.
– Stage 2(comprehensive evaluation): Based on evaluation results of Stage 1, selection via SNUAC research committee reviews.
