Ukrainian Identity Reshaped by War: Reconstruction and the Future of Democracy

  • Date: October 6th, Tuesday, 2026, 15:00 – 17:00
  • Location: Room 303, SNUAC (Bldg. 101)

The Russia–Ukraine war has inflicted immense human and material losses on Ukrainian society while also bringing about significant changes in the identities of both the state and its citizens. This forum has been organized to examine how Ukraine’s national identity and civic consciousness have been transformed through the experience of war, and to discuss how these changes may shape the process of postwar reconstruction and the future of democracy. Rather than understanding reconstruction solely in terms of physical rebuilding, the forum approaches it as a broader process of reconstructing the political and social order. From this perspective, it seeks to explore the challenges Ukraine is likely to face after the war and the possible directions of its future transformation.
