The edited volume Engineering Korea by Geun Bae Kim, Sang Woon Yoo, and Yoojung Sun introduces thirty engineers who worked in the field of engineering and technology that laid the foundations of Korean society. Amid the turbulent historical trajectory spanning colonialism, war, industrialization, and globalization, these engineers achieved technological innovation despite limited resources and difficult conditions, thereby constructing the groundwork for an advanced society. The book sheds light on the immense yet often overlooked journey of engineers behind Korea’s industrialization and offers a new perspective for understanding the self-portrait of contemporary Korea as an “Engineering Korea” centered on science and technology.
