Hosted by the Southeast Asia Center at SNUAC, the BK21 Education and Research Group of the Department of Anthropology at Seoul National University, and the Institute for Comparative Cultural Studies at Seoul National University, the “3rd Southeast Asian Regional Studies Graduate Student Workshop” will be held.

Under the theme “Re-reading James C. Scott: Resistance and Practice in Contemporary Southeast Asia,” the workshop will begin with a keynote lecture by Emeritus Professor Myung-Seok Oh of the Department of Anthropology at Seoul National University, focusing on the work of James C. Scott, whose scholarship has had a significant impact on anthropology and political science. It will be followed by a roundtable session consisting of designated discussions by four graduate students conducting research on Southeast Asia, along with a general discussion. The workshop aims to explore the theoretical expansion and practical applications of area studies.

Now in its third iteration since the inaugural workshop in 2024, this event seeks to provide an opportunity to expand and strengthen academic exchange and networks among graduate students and emerging scholars dedicated to Southeast Asian studies.
