  • Date: March 22nd, Saturday, 2025, 14:00 – 18:00
  • Location: Room 303, SNUAC (Bldg. 101)

This joint academic conference, co-hosted by the Korean Society of Russian History and the Migration and Refugee Research Group of the Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies at the Seoul National University Asia Center, aims to explore issues of identity and memory within empires, revolutions, and socialist systems. The conference will examine the Russian Revolution in early 20th-century Azerbaijan and Nariman Narimanov’s postcolonial vision, as well as the self-perception of Soviet Korean elites and debates on underdevelopment during the New Economic Policy (NEP) period, analyzing shifts in national identity within the socialist experience. Additionally, it will explore the formation and reconstruction of war memory, focusing on How War is Remembered, and discuss how historical events are interpreted within contemporary political and social contexts. By adopting a postcolonial perspective, this conference seeks to stimulate academic discussions on the intersections of empire, socialism, memory, and identity.
