About SNUAC
Since its inauguration in 2009, SNUAC aims to serve as a global hub for research in Asian studies by integrating regional and thematic research. By creating and sharing forward-thinking ideas, SNUAC contributes to the mutually harmonious development of Asia. The regional centers (Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia, Eurasian and Central Asia, South Asia, West Asia) and thematic programs will facilitate SNUAC’s vision for becoming a global hub for Asian studies research.

 

About SNUAC Field Research Grant for Graduate Students

1. Purpose

The SNUAC Field Research Grant for Graduate Students will provide support for graduate students in humanities and social sciences to conduct field research and interviews for their dissertations and allow them to grasp the current issues and trends in the local region. The grant is intended to promote Asian studies in Korea via nurturing next-generation scholars by providing graduate students with the opportunity to deepen their disciplinary interests in Asian studies.

2. Research Topics

Research in humanities and social sciences related to Asia

3. Grant

  • Grant: KRW 3,000,000 maximum (including airfare and living expenses)
  • Duration of Field Study: Within March 2020 ~ February 2021 (must conduct field research for at least a minimum of two weeks)
  • Number of Grants: 5 people

4. Eligibility

  • Graduate students (including those who have completed coursework) at SNU, conducting research on the topic of Asia for their dissertations
  • Priority will be given to candidates who have submitted their dissertation proposals to their corresponding departments
  • Applicants who have been funded with the same purpose within 2 years will be exempted

5. Submission of Research Results

  • Field notes and relevant receipts must be submitted by February 25th, 2021
  • Research results of the field study will be presented in March, 2021 (at SNUAC)

6. Application Process

  • Documents
    • Application form <Attachment 1>:  Maximum of 5 pages (A4), Times New Roman font size 11, line spacing 180. The application must include the designated research plan.
    • Recommendation letter from academic adviser
    • Statement of purpose
    • Certificate of enrollment
    • Dissertation proposal (if applicable)
  • Submission via email:  snuac.hr@gmail.com
    The title of the email must be [Field Study Grant Application]_Name

7. Screening and Selection Process

  • Stage 1: Application screening
  • Stage 2: Interview (successful candidates who passed stage 1)
  • Selection Criteria
    • Necessity of field research
    • Concreteness of research plan
    • Feasibility (local language capacity etc.)
    • Thoroughness of research plan

8. Timeline

  • Call for Application: January 13th, 2020
  • Application Deadline: February 14th, 2020
  • Selection Process: February 17th ~ 28th, 2020
  • Selection Notice: Early March, 2020
  • Research must begin from early March, 2020
