This presentation will compare and contrast the Indian and Chinese diasporas in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries as well as relate these movements to the better studied European migrations of the same era. It also examines these migrations to interrogate the analytical and conceptual categories scholars and policymakers employ to make sense of the flows of people globally in the past and in the present.
