지난 2월 24일 서울대학교 아시아연구소 HK⁺메가아시아연구사업단 메가아시아연구클러스터에서 주관한 <Asia’s Colonial Heritage: Legacies of Empire> 국제학술회의가 오후 3시부터 온라인 줌을 통해 개최되었다.
조민재 서울대학교 아시아연구소 HK연구교수의 사회로 학술회의가 시작되었다. 학술회의의 주제는 ‘아시아의 식민지 유산(Asia’s Colonial Heritage)’으로, 크게 ‘The Classical Empires’, ‘The Latter Empires’, ‘Atypical Empire’ 세 개의 파트로 나뉘어 발표들이 구성되었다.
세션Ⅰ의 첫번째 발표는 윤대영의 <Vietnamese Political Heritage and Korean Society: The Case of Việt Nam Vong Quốc Sử(History of the Loss of Vietnam, 1905) on the Rove>였다. 다음으로 Dung Nguyen의 <The Legacies of the French in a colonial Vietnam: What remains?>, 고일홍의 <Comparing post-colonial attitudes towards ancient colonial heritage in Korea and Vietnam>, 주경철의 <A study on the introduction of loan translations in the Korean language>, Ariel C. Lopez의 <The Changing Meanings of “Colonial” Relations: Filipino and Moro Commemorations of Spanish Rule>가 차례로 이어졌다.
다음으로 The Latter Empires에 대한 세션Ⅱ가 진행되었다. 세션Ⅱ에서는 권헌익의 <Empire’s Ghosts>, 백일순의 <South Korea’s attempts to break free from its colonial legacy: A focus on the Cultural Heritage Policy and the History of Liquidating Japanese Colonial Remnants>, Hriday Narayan의 <Colonial Experience: Its Impact on the Caste and Yangban Systems of India and Korea respectively>, Shumei Huang의 <‘Colonial heritage’ expanded: Lessons offered by the Taiwan case>, Simon Kaner의 <Towards an architecture of hidden histories: building colonisation around the East Sea/ Sea of Japan> 총 5개 발표가 이루어졌다.
Atypical Empire를 주제로 하는 세션Ⅲ에서는 고가영의 <Post-Colonialism in Central Asia: A Study of the Exhibitions of the Museum of Victims of Repression in Uzbekistan>, 김종일의 <‘Crossroad of Cultures’ of ‘Nexus of Histories’ – A ‘thick review’ of current heritage policies of Uzbekistan>, 김건영의 <Managing semi-colonial heritage in China: the case of Qingdao and Shanghai>, J. Eva Meharry의 <Afghanistan’s National Identity at the Crossroads of Empire: The Depiction of Heritage in Postage Stamps>, 총 4개의 발표가 진행되었다.
본 학술회의에서 진행된 발표의 내용은 정리되어 아시아의 식민지 유산(Asia’s Colonial Heritage)에 대한 단행본으로 발간될 예정이다.
