Research and discourse on Hallyu are being produced in all directions, and we are witnessing the formation of a new discursive system. This international conference seeks to critically reflect on the geography of Hallyu discourse through a meta-analysis of its production, agencies, proliferation conditions, and texts that constitute the Hallyu phenomenon.
In this conference, we inquire and deliberate on what academic issues Hallyu research raises, how it reframes existing theories on transnational cultural flows and creative industries, and what theoretical possibilities it holds, beyond the richness of case studies and observations.

5월 23일 아시아연구소 영원홀에서 <한류의 매핑과 이론화: 한류의 영향과 문화 이론에 대한 한류 연구>이라는 주제로 한류연구센터 국제 학술행사가 개최됐다. 한류에 대한 연구와 담론이 전 세계적으로 다양한 방향에서 이루어지면서, 본 국제 학술행사는 한류 현상을 구성하는 생산, 주체, 확산 조건 및 텍스트에 대한 메타 분석을 통해 한류 담론의 지리학을 비판적으로 성찰하는 자리였다. 아시아연구소 한류연구센터장인 홍석경 언론정보학과 교수의 개회사를 시작으로 행사는 총 2부로 진행되었다. 세종대 손승혜 교수의 사회로 진행된 1부는 ‘한류의 담론적 지리학: 누가 한류에 대해 말하는가? 그리고 무엇에 대해 말하는가?’가 주제였다. 먼저, ‘연결된 세계에서의 한류 물결: 확산과 영향력의 지도화’라는 큰 주제로 Natalia Grincheva (라셀예술대학 교수), 진달용 (사이먼프레이저대학교 교수), 김화정 (이화여자대학교 국제대학원 연구교수), 고영아 (마이애미대학교 교수)의 패널 발표가 진행되었다. 본 패널에서는 한국의 소프트파워 영향력을 탐구하고 지리적으로 시각화하며 측정하기 위해 개발된 데이터 기반 한류 연구 프로젝트들의 예비 결과를 공유하였다. 다음으로, 김도훈 (아르스프락시아 대표)는 한류 담론의 진화의 데이터 시각화와 한류에 대한 글로벌 리스크와 인식 이해, 박소정 (서울대학교 아시아연구소 한류연구센터 선임연구원)은 ‘한류 연구 지도화: 다언어 한류 연구에 대한 담론 분석’에 대하여 질문을 던지고, 박대민 (선문대학교 교수), 이규탁 (한국조지메이슨대학교 교수), 박지훈 (고려대학교 교수)가 토론자로 나서 논의하였다. 서강대 원용진 교수의 사회로 진행된 2부는 ‘떠오르는 한류의 관점들’이 주제였다. 이은정 (베를린자유대학교 한국학연구소장)의 ‘Chinoiseries-Japonisme-Korean Wave: 유럽에서의 동아시아 바람’, 진달용 (사이먼프레이저대학교 교수)의 ‘초국적 근접성 관점에서 본 한류: 넷플릭스가 스크린 산업에 미친 영향 분석’, Vincenzo Cicchelli (Paris Cité U.)와 Sylvie Octobre (French Ministry of Culture)의 팝 코스모폴리타니즘 이론: 선택적 친화성으로서의 한류, 그리고 김주옥 (Texas A&M International U.)의 네트워크 자본: 행복의 원천에 대한 발표가 진행되었고, 이에 권헌익 (서울대학교 아시아연구소 국제교류부장 / HK교수), 심두보 (성신여자대학교 교수), 김홍중 (서울대학교 사회학과 교수), 강재호 (서울대학교 언론정보학과 교수)가 토론자로 마지막 종합토론에서 한류 연구가 제기하는 학문적 문제들이 무엇인지, 그것이 기존의 초국적 문화 흐름 및 창의 산업에 관한 이론을 어떻게 재구성하는지, 그리고 사례 연구와 관찰의 풍부함을 넘어서 어떤 이론적 가능성을 지니는지에 대해 탐구하고 논의해 보는 시간을 가질 수 있었다.
