초록

본 시론은 한국 지리학의 위기의 내재적 원인 중 하나로 자연-인문지리학의 이분법이 놓여 있다고 보고, 위기를 벗어나기 위해서는 자연지리학과 인문지리학이 특정 연구주제를 중심으로 전략적 결합을 통해 융복합 연구를 진행시키는 것이 필요하다는 점을 강조한다. 구체적인 융복합 연구의 분야로는 도시재해를 주목한다. 본문의 구성은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 자연-인문지리학의 이분법을 해체하기 위한 비판적 인문지리학의 주요 성과들(도시정치생태학, 행성적 도시화론, 인간 너머의 지리학)을 소개하고, 관련된 도시재해 연구를 살펴본다. 둘째, 비판적 자연지리학의 주요 쟁점을 확인하고, 도시재해 연구에서의 시사점을 도출한다. 셋째, 인문지리학과 자연지리학 간의 전략적 결합이 가능한 주제로 4대강 연구를 제안하고, 방법론적 측면에서 국내 지리학자들의 연구수행 가능성을 검토한다.
In this paper, I recognize that the current Korean geography is in crisis internally by the physicalhuman dichotomy. Thus, strategic coupling between physical and human geographies focusing on a specific research theme is needed to escape the crisis. In this sense, I pay attention to the field of urban disaster as a research theme for convergence research. The structure of the article is as follows. First, I critically review the existing literature on critical human geography (i.e. the urban political ecology, the thesis on planetary urbanization and the more-than-human geographies) and its empirical studies on urban disaster. Second, I clarify the implications of critical physical geography for the successful strategic coupling with critical human geography. Lastly, the Four Major Rivers research is suggested for critical physical geography research while considering Korean geographers’ methodological capacity.
