아시아도시센터 선임연구원. 서울대학교에서 건축학, 경영학(석사), 도시설계 및 도시계획(박사)을 전공하였으며, 경기대학교와 서울대학교에서 도시설계, 공공디자인미학, 도시건축연구방법론 등을 강의하고 있다. 도시의 경제활동 재구조화와 그와 관련된 도시 공간의 변화가 주요한 관심 대상이며, 아시아도시센터에서는 기업, 산업 및 노동구조 변화 측면에서 도시의 경제적 회복력을 주제로 연구를 진행하고 있다. 익산공공영상미디어센터, 성남미디어센터 등의 기획 및 설계에 참여했고 민주노동당 정책연구원, 안양공공예술프로젝트 집행위원, 서울시 보행자우선도로 자문위원 등을 역임했다. 『뉴욕, 런던, 서울의 도시재생 이야기』를 공저했다.

Hanbyul Shim is a research fellow at the Center for Asian Cities. Dr. Shim obtained a Ph.D. in Urban Design and Planning at Seoul National University after studying Architecture (BA) and Business Administration (MA). His research interests are directed toward the restructuring of production activities and the influence of the built environment on transitional industry formation. His major research theme at CAC is concerned with the economic resilience of (post-)industrial cities, focusing on firm behavior, industrial structure, and the division of labor in relation to the urban economy.
