지난 4월 18일, 한류연구센터는 캘리포니아 주립대 롱비치(California State University, Long Beach)의 Cinematic Arts 학과에서 조교수로 재직 중인 정승훈 교수를 초청해 특별 강연을 개최했다. 정승훈 교수는 글로벌 시네마, 생명정치, 그리고 한국 대중문화의 세계화에 주목해 온 연구자로, 최근에는 넷플릭스 시리즈 <오징어 게임> 을 중심으로 자본주의, 인간의 윤리, 정치성에 대한 분석을 시도하고 있다. 아시아연구소에서 열린 이번 강연의 제목은 “게임과 계엄 사이-<오징어 게임> 시리즈의 정치적 전환”으로, 드라마 속 게임 구조와 서사를 통해 오늘날 한국 사회와 글로벌 자본주의의 현실을 되짚는 시간이 마련되었다.

4월 17일, 남아시아 센터는 이승훈 교수(Indian School of Business, 전략 분야 조교수)와 ‘인도의 재벌, 지배구조와 경제발전: 한국사회에 주는 시사점’을 주제로 세미나를 진행했다. 이승훈 교수는 인도의 재벌 기업 릴라이언스(Reliance Industries)의 사례를 중심으로 타타, SK, 삼성의 성장사와 한국, 인도, 미국의 회사법을 비교하면서 한국 사회에 주는 시사점을 논한다.

Heeryoon Shin is Assistant Professor of Art History and Visual Culture at Bard College, New York. Her current project explores architectural revival, mobility, and cross-cultural exchange in early colonial India through the lens of temple architecture in the pilgrimage city of Banaras. She is also developing a second project on the global circulation of blue and white ceramics and their interaction with local production and use in South Asia. Shin received her PhD in the History of Art from Yale University.
