THE SOCIAL SCIENCE RESEARCH COUNCIL’S INTERASIA
\nPROGRAM SELECTS 2017 TRANSREGIONAL RESEARCH
\nJUNIOR SCHOLAR FELLOWS<\/strong><\/span><\/h3>\n<\/div>\n
\n

BROOKLYN, NY<\/strong> (June 7, 2017)<\/strong> \u2013 The Social Science Research Council<\/a>‘s\u00a0InterAsia Program today announces the 2017 cohort of Transregional Research Junior Scholar fellows.<\/p>\n

Fourteen fellowships were awarded to scholars working on innovative transregional and transnational research projects that transform conventional understandings of Asia and cross traditional area studies boundaries. Collectively, this international 2017 cohort represents five countries, multiple academic disciplines, and 10 different universities.<\/p>\n

Since the fellowship program\u2019s inception in 2011, Transregional Research Junior Scholar Fellowships: InterAsian Contexts and Connections have been awarded to over 65 scholars whose projects reconceptualize research on Asia as an interlinked historical and geographic formation stretching from West Asia (including Turkey) through Eurasia, Central Asia, and South Asia to Southeast Asia and East Asia. Expanded as of 2016, the program now includes a focus on projects that explore linkages beyond this expanse, particularly looking at Afro-Asian connections, as well as the work of international scholars. Proposals supported by the fellowships examine processes that connect places and peoples (such as migration, media, and resource flows) as well as those that reconfigure local and translocal contexts (such as shifting borders, urbanization, and social movements).<\/p>\n

We will begin accepting applications for the 2018 competition in June 2017. Please check the InterAsia site<\/a> for additional details.<\/strong><\/p>\n

In collaboration with the Global and Transregional Studies Platform at the University of G\u00f6ttingen in Germany, the SSRC\u2019s InterAsia Program also selected a cohort of five researchers as SSRC Global Summer Semester Residency fellows. The SSRC Global Summer Semester Residency at the University of G\u00f6ttingen supports researchers who are working on projects that reflect the existing research expertise at the University of G\u00f6ttingen and that strive to deepen the dialogue between different regional studies and disciplines. The 2017 Resident Fellows will be based at the University of G\u00f6ttingen for the 2017 summer semester, helping to develop what we hope will become a German and European node for international networks of transregional research.<\/p>\n
