Focusing on migration trajectories linking New England, the Midwest, California, and the Sunbelt South, the lecture explores the secondary and tertiary migrations that followed the U.S. government&#8217;s refugee dispersion policy, as well as the emergence of new Asian American ethnoburbs.<\/p>\n<p class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchorContainer\" data-start=\"0\" data-end=\"682\">The lecture will also examine how repeated experiences of migration and forced displacement have shaped Vietnamese American identity and community formation, offering a new perspective on migration and diaspora studies that moves beyond conventional assimilation-centered models of refugee resettlement.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p data-start=\"861\" data-end=\"1585\" data-is-last-node=\"\" data-is-only-node=\"\">Ivan V. Small is Professor of Anthropology at Northern Illinois University and Director of the Center for Southeast Asian Studies. His research focuses on economic anthropology, Vietnam studies, migration and diaspora, transnational networks, mobility, remittances, and Asian American studies. His book, <em data-start=\"1191\" data-end=\"1268\">Currencies of Imagination: Channeling Money and Chasing Mobility in Vietnam<\/em> (Cornell University Press, 2019), is widely recognized as a landmark study of remittances, mobility, and social relations linking Vietnam and the Vietnamese diaspora.
