My name is Seok-Kyeong Hong, Director of the Center for Hallyu Studies at the SNU Asia Center.<\/p>\n

Since its launch in March 2022, the Center for Hallyu Studies has been engaged in multidisciplinary research on the fast-evolving Korean popular culture. To better understand the global landscape of Hallyu studies and to foster a network of both domestic and international scholars, we have been hosting a range of activities, including monthly 100-minute book talks, annual international conferences, special seminars, and numerous research projects.<\/p>\n

While these efforts have largely focused on professional researchers, it has come to our attention that many students across various disciplines and courses are also producing academic work on Korean popular culture and the Hallyu phenomenon in the form of reports, theses, and independent papers. In recognition of this, and with the aim of encouraging students and nurturing future scholars in this field, the Center for Hallyu Studies (SNUAC CHS: SNU Asia Center, Center for Hallyu Studies) is pleased to announce the 1st Hallyu Studies Student Day.<\/p>\n

This one-day conference invites academic papers from undergraduate, master&#39;s, and doctoral students on the topics listed below through a Call for Papers (CFP). We are seeking submissions of papers written within the past five years that have not been previously published in any journal, with a preference for research that follows academic journal standards. To accommodate papers currently being written this semester, the submission deadline is November 30, 2024. We encourage students to begin their reports early this semester and to share this information widely.<\/p>\n

In addition to papers that rigorously apply established research methods, we welcome original analyses and bold interpretations that challenge conventional frameworks. We also plan to recognize outstanding papers among the selected presenters, with the possibility of publication in the Center for Hallyu Studies webzine.<\/p>\n

We sincerely ask for your support in helping make this one-day conference a success for the students.<\/p>\n

Call for Papers: Hallyu Studies Student Day
\nThe Center for Hallyu Studies at the SNU Asia Center invites submissions for the 1st Hallyu Studies Student Day. We encourage students to submit papers on a wide range of topics related to Korean popular culture and the Hallyu phenomenon.<\/p>\n

Eligibility
\n\uf0b7 All SNU undergraduate and graduate students are eligible to submit.<\/p>\n

Submission Themes
\nWe welcome submissions on, but not limited to, the following topics:

\n\uf0b7 K-Culture Phenomena (beauty, fashion, mukbang, tourism, etc.)
\n\uf0b7 Cultural Industries (K-pop, dramas, films, webtoons, games, etc.)

\n\uf0b7 Public Diplomacy

Submission Guidelines and Schedule
\n\uf0b7 October 1\u201315, 2024: Submit an application via email: hallyustudies@gmail.com. Please include the following:
\no Name
\no College, Department
\no Academic program (undergraduate, master\u2019s, PhD)
\no A brief description of the paper\u2019s subject (half page)
\n\uf0b7 November 1\u201330, 2024: Submit the full paper (in Korean or English). Papers should follow the format of academic journal publications. Only original, unpublished work will be considered.
\n\uf0b7 December 12, 2024: Notification of selected presenters and program announcement (peer review process will occur between December 1\u201312).
\n\uf0b7 December 20, 2024: Conference day and awards ceremony for outstanding papers.<\/p>\n

Rewards
\n\uf0b7 1st Place: 1,000,000 KRW (1 paper)
\n\uf0b7 2nd Place: 500,000 KRW (3 papers)
\n\uf0b7 3rd Place: 200,000 KRW (n papers)
