By theorizing the experience of East Asian modernity in the &#8216;Yellow Pacific&#8217;, the author emphasizes existential, material, and sentimental historicity from a &#8216;here and now&#8217; point of view. In a social evolutionary perspective, &#8216;Yellow&#8217; refers to East Asians who are in an active self-approval, beyond any degradation or discrimination. &#8216;Pacific&#8217; signifies that the USA is the major Other of this region in the process of East Asia&#8217;s modernization, Cold War and post-Cold War, globalization, and neo-liberalization.
