The purpose of the internship is to cultivate the abilities of future scholars and professionals of Asian studies through training and education. With this aim, the professors and researchers of SNUAC give lectures on different fields of Asian studies and educate the interns on basic procedures and administrative tasks by offering hands-on experience in ongoing research. The research interns are undergraduate and graduate students from diverse majors, who share the common interest in \u201cAsia.\u201d During the internship, the interns will participate in various seminars and assist in different programs and departments of SNUAC. While participating in the education and training programs, the interns will build a sound network by hosting social events and going on field studies to historical sites related to Asian studies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Program<\/b><\/p>\n<p><u>A. Education on the Asian regions and themes (Asian Studies)<\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Learn about Asian studies research focusing on SNUAC research outcomes via small lectures.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Lecture Topics :<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Diverse Asia (the past\u00b7present\u00b7future of Central Asia, South Asia: the world with a map made of languages, Muslims of Southeast Asia, strike and cultural politics of post-Socialist Vietnam, East Asian developmentalism seen through mega-events)<\/li>\n<li>Looking at Asia through Themes (<span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">Korea in the 21st century, Northeast Asian politics and the future of Korean peninsula<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">,\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">changes and understanding the US-China relationship,<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0cities in East Asia, studying Asia via tides and relationships<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">,\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">the Asian world connected by seas,<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">\u00a0<\/span><span dir=\"LTR\" lang=\"en-US\">a political-administrative system seen through Singapore\u2019s value system, Asia&#8217;s poverty, inequality, and social policy, Asian Future Earth and socio-ecological system visioneering, etc.)<\/span><\/li>\n<li>Writing seminars for short essays<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u2013 Short essays (A4 1 page) will be written after Asian studies lectures<\/p>\n<p><u>B. Training on research and administration<\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Opportunities for research work through assignment at a SNUAC research program or regional center<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Assistant at centers and programs such as Northeast Asia Center, Southeast Asia Center, Center for Eurasian and Central Asian Studies, West Asia Center, Center for South Asian Studies, Center for Asian Urban Societies and KOSSDA<\/li>\n<li>Editorial assistant for\u00a0<em>DiverseAsia\u00a0<\/em>(webzine)<\/li>\n<li>Editorial assistant for <em>Asia Brief<\/em> (weekly)<\/li>\n<li>Academic reporter for participating in and reporting on SNUAC&#8217;s academic events and seminars through reviews and managing SNUAC&#8217;s social media accounts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><u>C. Networking program for research interns<\/u><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Small group seminars (twice a month) \/ online seminars due to the COVID-19 situation<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 On-site survey (once a month) \/ subject to change according to the COVID-19 situation<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">D.\u00a0Program to improve academic skills<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Writing a research paper, mentoring and granting an excellent dissertation\u00a0award<\/p>\n<p><strong>Internship Duration<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>March 2022 &#8211; August 2022 (6 months)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Number of Openings<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Approximately 15 interns will be selected for the 15th cohort<\/p>\n<p><b>Benefits<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A. Monthly activity allowance of 200,000 KRW.<br \/>\nB. The interns receive awards based on the decision of the SNUAC committee at the completion ceremony.<\/p>\n<p><b>Eligibility<\/b><\/p>\n<p>A. Domestic and international undergraduate and graduate students interested in Asian studies research.<br \/>\n(Undergraduate students need to have completed more than four semesters of their coursework)<br \/>\nB. Open to all majors and nationalities.<br \/>\n(Non-Korean nationals must be able to understand lectures in Korean)<br \/>\nC. Only candidates available to work over 20 hours\/week will be selected.
