Structural Equation Models and Its Applications

Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) is a statistical methodology that is widely used by researchers in the social, behavioral and educational sciences.  First introduced in the early 1970s, SEM was a bridge of psychometrics and econometrics. On the psychometric side, SEM allows for latent variables with multiple indicators. On the econometric side, SEM allows for multiple equations, possibly with feedback loops. In today’s SEM software, the models are so general that they encompass most of the statistical methods that are currently used in the social and behavioral sciences.

This course will cover modern statistical methods and data analysis for factor analysis and structural equation models. The emphasis will be on how to use the methodology of structural equation modeling as a research tool in practical applications. The lectures will cover general topics and discuss and demonstrate several real data examples with LISREL. The participants will have the opportunity to work on their own problems and data, or on assigned problems under the instructor’s supervision.

  • Model with longitudinal data

Instructor: Prof. Fan Yang-Wallentin

Bio-sketch

Fan Yang-Wallentin is a Professor in Statistics at the department of Statistics, Uppsala University, Sweden. Her Ph.D. in Statistics was earned at Uppsala University, 1997.

She is a recipient of Arnberg Prize from the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences.

Prof. Wallentin’s program of research focuses on the theory and applications of Latent Variable Modeling and other types of Multivariate Statistical Analysis, particularly their applications in the social and behavioral sciences. She published research articles in several leading statistics and psychometrics journals on these and related topics. She has also been teaching courses in Structural Equation models in Sweden, USA, China and other European countries. She has broad experiences in statistical consultation for researchers in social and behavioral sciences.
