On October 17, 2024, the Northeast Asia Center at SNUAC visited the Department of Sociology at Peking University in China to explore and initiate academic exchanges between the two institutions. At the meeting, Prof. Baek-Yung Kim, Director of the Northeast Asia Center, gave a presentation titled “Life and Death of Cities in Northeast Asia: Urban Changes in Korea, Japan, and China in the Era of Post-developmentalism” as an introduction to the center’s core projects. Participants from the Northeast Asia Center included Baek-Yung Kim (Dept. of Sociology), Ran Kim (SNUAC), Hyun-jong Noh (Soongsil Peace and Unification Research Institute), Min-joo Cho (Institute of Humanities, Duksung Women’s University), and Soonjik Hong (SNUAC). From Peking University, attendees included Liu Neng (Associate Chair of Sociology), Tian Geng (Professor of Sociology), and Ling Peng (Associate Professor of Sociology), as well as several graduate students who actively joined in the roundtable discussion.

[News] Northeast Asia Center Visits Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and Conducts Academic Exchange

On the morning of October 18, 2024, the Northeast Asia Center at SNUAC visited the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) and held a roundtable discussion, marking the beginning of meaningful academic exchange between the two institutions. The meeting provided an extensive platform for scholars from both countries to exchange views on peace and current issues in the Korean Peninsula and Northeast Asia. Participants from the Northeast Asia Center included Baek-Yung Kim (Dept. of Sociology), Ran Kim (SNUAC), Hyun-jong Noh (Soongsil Peace and Unification Research Institute), Min-joo Cho (Institute of Humanities, Duksung Women’s University), and Soonjik Hong (SNUAC). CASS participants included Dong Xiang Rong (National Institute of International Strategy, CASS), Li Tian Guo (NIIS, CASS), Jin Ying Ji (NIIS, CASS), Wang Xiao Ling (NIIS, CASS), Li Cheng Ri (NIIS, CASS), Li Yong Chun (NIIS, CASS), Tang Xiao (China Institute of International Studies), and Zhang Jia Wei (CASS), with an unexpectedly high number of researchers in attendance.

[Visiting Scholars] Yuna Lee
Yuna Lee is a foresight practitioner and a PhD researcher in the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis at University College London. Her research interests revolve around foresight and forecasting, focusing on robust and innovative measures/techniques for “Futures of Risk and Resilience” in the context of policy processes for a sustainable environment. As a visiting fellow at SNUAC, she will mainly delve into a comparative analysis of the interpretation and application of strategic foresight in Asian and Western contexts under the project “Strategic Foresight for Global Risks in Government: Local, National to International”.
