The 10th KOSSDA Data Fair

  • Date: January 28th, Thursday, 2021 14:00 – 17:00
  • Online via YouTube

Korea Social Science Data Archive (KOSSDA) is holding the 10th Data Fair with the theme <Various Qualitative Data, Crossing Boundaries>. This event focuses on the changes in qualitative data that KOSSDA has captured while archiving qualitative data and educating qualitative methodologies.

Qualitative data such as interviews or field observation documents have been collected in the context of traditional qualitative research and thus were analyzed within clear boundaries, with limitations on secondary usage. Recently, new changes are appearing beyond this trend. Various analysis programs have been developed for qualitative data, and diverse new trials in interpretative methods are being made according to academic disciplines and areas of policy. Not only researchers but also citizens and social activists are increasingly showing interest in qualitative data.

In session 1 of Data Fair, two representative studies will be introduced so that we can take a look at aspects of qualitative data in the tradition of qualitative research. Researchers of an illness narrative study on the disease experience of a patient with chronic pain and a large-scale village study in the early 2000s will present their experiences of conducting their research. Session 2 will show the changes and possibilities of qualitative data. Especially the ‘deductive approach’ in qualitative research, analysis using ‘text mining’, and what happens when qualitative data meets the new frame of ‘living lab’ will be introduced.

We hope that all those interested in data will join us so that horizons of new research will open up with their active participation.

• This event will be live-streamed on YouTube for the prevention of COVID-19. Anyone can participate through KOSSDA’s official YouTube channel.
